With the start of Ramadan approaching, we know that some children will wish to take part in fasting. In general it is not recommended that pupils of primary age fast for a prolonged period of time.
We would advise that it is best to do this at the weekend when parents can supervise.
We recognise that some of the pupils who have reached puberty do wish to fast during the school week. However, as you may be aware, Ramadan will being during the SATS week, therefore we strongly advise that no Year 6 child fasts during this week.
If your child has reached puberty and wishes to fast after SATS week, we need the slip on the letter which was sent home signed, dated and returned to the class teacher before Ramadan begins in order to ensure that all pupils are safe and accounted for at lunchtime. Children can either go home for their lunch or stay in school.
