Last week, we had a fun-filled week with one mission - to write for a purpose. Across school, we all chose a different purpose to write for: Year 1 had a poetry competition; Y2 wrote to CBeebies; Y3 made a video advert for our school; Year 4 wrote to the local council about littering in the local area; Year 5 created our very own school magazine called ‘The Highfield Headliner’ and Year 6 wrote to Liam Byrne MP about traffic, parking and road safety. We also had a focus text per year group, which underpinned our World Book Day learning. Children and staff had the option of coming in dressed as their favourite character from a book, which was enjoyable for all. We also had the opportunity to share a story where we chose a story to be read to us based on the front cover. We also had a press conference in Y5, a Mad Hatter’s Tea party in Y3 and ‘Pirate Day’ in Reception amongst other things. Everyone in school had a great week and we were fully immersed in learning about all things Literacy.
A big thanks to Miss. Flint and Mrs Middleton for organising such a successful week. Here are a few things to share.
